Park City Mountain Resort (Multiple trails)

There are several excellent trails which are lift served right here at the resort. All vary in length and difficulty, but all are excellent. Buy an all day pass and ride until the wheels fall off, this place rocks for all skills levels and riders. The following are just a few of the fun singletracks available:
Sweeney Switchbacks: From the top of PayDay Lift, head right down Bonanza Access Road, then right onto Drift Road. Follow all the way across PayDay Run; then connect to Sweeney Switchbacks. You can also access the Sweeney Switchbacks from the Upper Norfolk, Lowell Avenue, and King Road Trailheads. Lots of sick - tight twisties, hairpins and huge rocks littering the trail, unforgiving to those in over their heads. I went over the bars 4 times in my first descent. Master the backseat for this one! [advanced] 3.6 miles / 19,000 ft.
Steps Trail: From the top of PayDay Lift, head right down Bonanza Access Road. Connect briefly with Homerun; then take a right onto Steps Trail. When you get to the top, head left to 5-Way. Take a right on King Con Ridge and follow to Eagle Trail. This will connect with Spiro Trail, which will lead you to King Con Trailhead. To return to resort base, take Crescent Rd., then right on Three Kings Dr. Nice long singletrack with beautiful views of the area. The ridge get a bit rocky but anyone paying attention can navigate it. Watch for moose and deer! [advanced] 6.2 miles / 32,600 ft.
From Salt Lake City: take I-80 East for about 3 miles and then I-215 South. Continue on I-215 as it loops around the city. As you reach the foothills, look for I-80 East to Cheyenne. Travel on I-80 East for approximately 15 minutes up through Parley's Canyon. When you reach the Kimball Junction, take the 224 exit, turn right, and travel south along Highway 224. After approximately 8 minutes you will arrive at Park City. Turn right on Empire Avenue, the resort center is on your right.

Summary: One of my favorite rides in the Park City area is to climb the Spiro Trail, then up to the Powerline Trail, on to the Comstock Mine Trail and then around Shadow Lake Loop. It's a good 3000-foot climb in 5.5 miles -- a steady aeroboic pace, mostly on gorgeous singletrack. And then there's the return ride! The Spiro Trail starts out as a steady climb with lots of well-designed switchbacks. Later it straightens out as it heads up Thayne's Canyon. Stay with it and you will be rewarded with perfect singletrack passages through aspen groves. The Powerline and Comstock Mine Trails are much straighter and steeper -- a solid workout in serene woods.
The Spiro Trail also connects to the incredible Mid-Mountain Trail, which is picked up just a short way up the Powerline Trail. This beauty is a piece of singletrack heaven, weaving along for 11.3 miles (no exits) until you descend via 4 more miles of ski runs and dirt roads at The Canyons Resort. (It's another 5 miles back to your car by road/paved bike trail.) The Mid-Mountain retains a fairly constant 8000-foot elevation. No big climbs or rocketing descents -- just miles and miles of cross-country riding. The trail was funded in part by the Summit County Restaurant Tax, so say thank you to the local folks with a burger and beer in town.
Recommended Route: (1) Spiro Trail to Thaynes Canyon Rd (dirt) to Powerline Trail to Comstock Mine Rd to Shadow Lake Loop (counterclockwise). Return the same way, or (2) Pick up Mid-Mountain Trail at beginning of Powerline Trail and descend at The Canyons Resort.

Summary: Love this trail system, my favorite in the area. What I love about the riding in PC is that you hit aspens and pines as soon as you leave the trailhead. In Ogden, you have to climb quite a bit before you hit any aspens or pines.
Recommended Route: Up spiro....many ways to go from there...
Other recommended trails in the same area: Deer valley (use the public transit bus to take you up to Silver spring (it's free), ride up Big Bear to get to the top, ride down to town via Tour de Suds), TG1, TG2, John's, Sweeney Switchbacks, etc, etc....awesome, awesome, awesome!!!!

Ridden Trail: Every few months

Summary: This is one of my favorites, Ive been riding 15yrs. and this is one of the most senic, fun, and good outs I've done. The first mile is a fairly good climb and kept me breathing. After that it mellows but continues to climb. Its fun going across the ski trails I ski in the winter. The single track is not to narrow but be careful with the many switch backs along the way. Always stay on the single track vs. a few maintenance roads, it will be much more enjoyable. It was interesting seeing the many mine shafts and buildings along the way. This fall the leaves were great and even had alittle snow along the trail last weekend. It took myself and my wife alittle over and hour to get to Jupiter Bowl, I'm 50 so younger bucks and does may be able to ride up alittle faster. Great Ride, will do at least once per month next year. Also at the Thaynes lift is a turn off along the single track that will take you 14 miles to the Canyons Ski resort. Cant wait to do that next year.
Recommended Route: Start at Resort Center or 3 Kings Road, up Spiro trail, stay on single track up pole line to Jupiter bowl. I came back same way but there are many options with some more climbing

Summary: Great single track all the way till you descend at the Canyons ski resort. Appears to be a brand new trail (lots of tree stumps, freshly broken rock and downed trees). Killer single track on both the climb up Spiro and Mid-Mountian trial. Really enjoyed this ride and truly recommend.
Recommended Route: Ride up Spiro Trail, on west side of resort. Take Mid-Mountian all the way to The Canyons ski resort. Go down and loop up with Farm trial back to Park City.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Summary: 2 things: 1) Unfortunately, David is right. As of last summer (2000), Payday lift at PCMR was carrying bikes/riders up, and the traffic was beating up John's and Trestle trails. 2) This is the best riding in the greater SLC area, but the map sucks, the signing is inconsistent, and the intersections hard to describe. If you're from out of town, or new to the area, hook up with one of the following weekly group rides: Wasatch Mtn Club: Every Tues (late June - mid Sept.) at 6:00 PM, meet on roof of Municipal garage, by Muni offices off Guardsman Rd. Typically they break into a fast & slow group. White Pine: Every Thurs. at 6:00PM (June-August), meet at shop off Main St. They break into 3 or 4 groups based on ability. Level 2 & 3 rides tend to be big (15-20 riders) Jans: Every Tues at 6:00, meet at Shop. Never done their rides...
Recommended Route: See below
Other recommended trails in the same area: On an even day, get a friend to drop you off in Park City. Do a Park City/Deer Valley climb to Scott's Pass to Wasatch Crest to Great Western Trail to either Big or Little Water trails. Descend into Mill Creek. Descend road for 3 miles, then pick up Pipeline, descend to Rattlsnake Gulch, descend to road, drop down into suburban SLC.
