Pridgett Loop (not official)

ride up pridgett canyon (bed river and tough jeep road). when in sight of the arch, take the first "road" on the left and ride up to the top of a saddle. from then follow the sandy road then take hunter canyon on the right.the end of the canyon is a terrible single track extremely technical where you will have to dismount a fair amount of time. The very end of the canyon will require a bit of climbing talent as you have to "find a way to get 30 feet lower" using a few benches and ledges not that wide. Ride the dirt road for 3 more miles and you are done!

Summary:
i review this trail to clarify one point. i read a trail descritpion in the falcon guide book. somewhat misleading.

i spent the last two miles of this ride mostly carrying the bike. absolutely impossible to ride. and you must descend several hundred feet to Hurrah Pass Road in a hurry. at one point you drop 15'-20 strait down. a rope would be handy.

so a major amount of this ride , at the end , as you travel the rim and descend, is a full out hike. probably 1 hour of a 4 hour RT ride.

still loved it....but be advised of huge hiking component of this ride.

Summary:
Parked in the lot and paid the $1 fee to go into the private campground. First section has alot of sand and climbing. After getting to While Knuckle hill we thought it'd be downhill most of the way. But instead there was alot of sand and some flatlands. The end of this trail goes from 4wd road to single track and then to hike a bike. The single track is rideable in some parts but plan to carry your bike for about an hour. There's some difficult bike lifting and dropping as you're climbing up and down boulders along the side of a canyon. You can see your destination road a few hundred feet below you but you will move along the edge of the canyon looking for caims to guide you. It was an experience but probably wouldn't ride this again. Not enough cruising time for the effort. Alot of time spent hiking and in sand. The exposures were pretty scary a some parts. Some ledges I couldn't fit the bike, me and my backpack on with my back against the canyon wall.

Rode route as described

Summary:
This ride has it all. Route finding, hike-a-bike, sand, XC, technical sections, singletrack, views, etc. If it's hot, take lots of water, cuz it's a long ride. Best when Moab's had some moisture to firm up the sand. Probably not for everyone because there are some exposed sections on the hike-a-bike.

Recommended Route:
Do this ride by going up Kane Springs Road to Gatherers Canyon. Hike a bike up the canyon 'til it pinches out, then climb up and back towards the road. Eventually, you'll reach a shelf that runs along and above the road. Pick up the singletrack and follow it as it enventually heads up Hunters Canyon. Soon you'll pick up a jeep road. At the first, main junction, stay left towards Pritchett Arch. Top out after some tech sections and descend Pritchett Canyon back to the road.

Summary:
Too much sand at the beginning (almost turned around), really loose climbs until you get to the top of White Knuckle Hill. The middle piece of this ride is the most enjoyable, wide open 4WD road. The last 1-2 miles is ridiculous, and we ended up walking the whole thing. BTW, lost my camera on this hike-a-bike section, so if anyone finds a Yashica APS camera in a Lowe Pro camera bag, I'm offering a reward.

Recommended Route:
Not the way we went, which was the route described in the Falcon Press "Mountain Biking Moab" - up Pritchett Canyon, take a right at the intersection with Behind the Rocks trail, then down the hike-a-bike.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Amassa Back is still my favorite Moab ride. Poison Spider was fun, though a lot of sand; don't do the Portal if you don't consider yourself an excellent rider.

Summary:
I stand with what I mentionned earlier.
The sand at the bottom is not all that bad and at the end, there are may a 20 yard stretch of hike a bike plus 2 5-yards section unpassable earlier on. 30 yards total is not excatly what I call "hike a bike on the way down". I guess in order to enjoy it you need to have a taste for solitude (did not see anyone up there) as well as a minimum of technical skills

Recommended Route:
